You know when summer is just around the corner when you’re in Calgary, because all of a sudden festivals start taking place and they don’t stop! Those lucky enough to visit the city during June will be able to enjoy the beginning of the festival season, with three festivals taking place that’ll make sure your trip to Calgary is a memorable one.
The return of an annual favourite
As far as festivals go, it doesn’t much better than the annual Lilac Festival. Fun for the whole family, this festival kicks off with a parade and then has musical performance, street vendors, and other fun events taking place throughout the day. The perfect way to kick off summer! Takes place in downtown Calgary on June 4.
Lobster and a good cause
Now, we all know that any festival dedicated to lobster is going to be pretty special. But Lobsterfest takes it up a notch: not only is this all about lobster, it also all takes place for a good cause. Get your tickets and you’ll be able to enjoy a fine lobster dish and a few drinks while the DJ spins the records. There’ll also be a silent auction, if you fancy taking home a souvenir. Takes place June 10 at Acadia Recreation Complex.
5 days of awesomeness
There’s no other way to put it: Sled Island Music and Arts Festival rocks. Spread over five days and 30 venues, there’ll be more than 250 musicians, artists, filmmakers, and comedians making sure everyone is thoroughly entertained. The guest curator is the phenomenally talent Flying Lotus, so you’ll know it’ll be good. Takes place June 21 - 25 at various venues.
